Orange Juice & PDAs Don’t Mix

by Lynette

Oh, I’m so lost without my beloved Palm PDA. This week, while reading my kids a story, one of them spilled a full cup of juice on me. As luck would have it, I had the PDA in my lap. Now, the computer won’t recognize it and won’t sync although the unit works like normal. But without syncing… it’s lost half if not more of it’s usefulness.

I use my Palm every day to read ebooks and any PDF’s and a lot more. One would think this is great. Here’s an excuse for me to purchase a new one… maybe just in time for iPhone!

But nah… I’m not a big fan of an all in one phone. Mostly because I don’t want another monthly cost tagged onto the household budget just to use it. Plus, I like my phones to be just that. A phone. Don’t mind tethering it to a laptop but… when you work at home, you really don’t want to be that accessible. If I’m out, I’m out. The phone is bad enough but having to deal with work emails etc while I’m trying to enjoy my kid’s concert or ball game? Nah. Better not have the temptation around.

Anyway, I digress. I’ll probably get the Palm TX. Yes, it’s not exactly the newest gadget on the block and why Palm? The one PDA platform that seems to be in the death spiral? Well… because it’s simple and it just works. I’ve been a long time Palm user and if I get the TX it’ll be my third unit. They’re all solidly built. Even my first unit which is in storage is in pristine working condition. Also, there’s just a lot of software invested in it.

I know I’ll be using it long after the company has abandoned the line - if they abandon it and hopefully no more orange juice accidents.
