Google IMAP Update

by Lynette

In November, I talked about switching to IMAP on Gmail and promised to update you so here goes.

Since Gmail updated to a new version which crashes my Firefox browser almost every time I click away or close the window, IMAP is truly a life saver.

I like the ability to check all my emails from one email client instead of logging in everywhere. When on the desktop, IMAP with Thunderbird is what I use and when on the PDA or laptop, I’ll use web based. Really worked out superb for me.

The only thing I find awful confusing is, emails viewed, sent and written while you are connecting via IMAP is labeled Sent/IMAP or Inbox/IMAP. I like to keep my labels clean so I have to remove those labels first to organize. Also, keeping up with the GTD way of doing things, I prefer to organize/process out my inbox using the web interface.

All in all, it’s a very nice option.
