We all realize that accidents happen even when we are the most cautious of parents.  But as a mom I am still very over protective and terrified of something happening to my children.  I want to do all I can to prevent their injury or worse death.

One of the things that I have a horror of is accidentally running over my children.  I have heard stories of this happening and therefore I am extra cautious, even still I have had the experience of accidentally hitting a family pet and experiencing the grief even that brought on.  I cannot  imagine the feelings that would accompany hitting your own child.

I spend alot of time on the road.  I travel quite a bit for business and most of the time we travel via our mini van.  Many times because we like to take the family.  Traveling with family you want to be super safe.  We take as many precautions as we can, including having the van serviced before we leave, making sure our spare is up, checking the air in our tires, and packing a jump start or battery charger.

Last week I had something happen to me for the very first time in my life.  I got pulled over by a cop for speeding.  Mind you I realize that I was actually speeding, but nothing overly fast.  Nonetheless I was guilty.  Luckily, I did not get a ticket, but it would have been bad if I had.

Now, I’m thinking I might need one of these:

Do any of you have experience using a Radar Detector ?  I remember when I was in high school I had a lot of college friends who had them.  They obviously flew down the interstate back and forth from college, but me on the other hand I just putted around town as I do now and never saw any real use for one.

What do you think?  Is a radar detector a gadget this mom should get?  Will it get me out of the dreaded speeding ticket?

GPS Unit That Helps You Find Your Way

We had relatives from Baltimore visit us recently. When they arrived they wanted to travel to see my boys football game, but we were not able to get directions to them in time. Well with their GPS navigation system they found out where we were and was able to arrive in time for the games. Is giving people directions becoming a thing of the past? For me personally, I hope so because I am not good at giving directions.

The GPS navigation map covers millions of areas of interest, it can lead you to the closest ATMs or gas station. The large screen makes it easy to read at a glance. It also can provide the driver with real-time traffic updates. The unit can be easy removed and slipped into a bag, pocket or glove compartment. You can use it wherever you need it. Growing up I loved to read, so much so that my parents would have to MAKE me turn out my bedroom light or lamp.  Later in life I discovered the clip on light, or reading light that is perfect for reading a book in bed. I even found a travel sized one at the dollar store that was perfect for traveling. I used it during college.  It was so useful to have to read by especially late night study times.

I’m sure there are other uses you can find for such a light.  They make these in other styles and models that work well with seeing under your car hood for example or illuminating the interior of your car to read while someone else is driving or to read your map on vacation at night.

There are many uses for this handy gadget which I’m sure you may think of that I haven’t mentioned.  It makes a perfect gift for almost anyone in your life, so remember that when birthdays come or the holidays are approaching.  Inexpensive but useful, what coul be a better gift?
