Watching this show on History channel for the 3rd time! But I can’t help it. This machine is so very fascinating to me. Now you know how much of a geek I am. History and science floats my boat.

Back to this ancient computer. It’s called the Antikythera mechanism and it’s extremely complex. Dating back to 87 B.C., scientists and historians still aren’t quite sure what its purpose is but they think it is some sort of calendar computer. No, not like the computer I’m typing on right now and the one you’re reading from. But, pretty impressive because it had 29 gears and believed to have up to 70 gears that would allow it to make complex calculations.

Anyhow. this show is one of six in the Ancient Discoveries Series by History Channel. I can’t find a rating to it but my kids are very young and sometimes they watch these documentaries with me and they learn a lot. Besides, it’s always good to know some history. Ancient Discoveries is an excellent series. Highly recommended.
